A wonderfully emotional journey ..., April 19, 2008
Raindrops
RAINDROPS is a compilation of poems that speaks to you from the heart and soul of its author, Besa Kosova. It speaks of a family torn apart by the effects of drugs, and how the strength of love cannot overcome its debilitating hold. Ms. Kosova's words reflect her feelings of helplessness, anger, and bewilderment with such emotion that you cannot help but feel her pain.
Through her words, we see an innocent taking on the blame, and in the process losing their sense of self and security, forever wondering what they did to cause such chaos to wreak havoc on their life. But most of all we see someone not wanting to let go, but ultimately knowing it's the only way. We see the realization that sometimes, `love just isn't enough'-and how ultimately we all need to find the strength to walk away.
These poems take us on a journey of desperation, realization, and healing.
A wonderful read! **** stars!

Unadorned Glimpses into the Cocaine Whirlwind, March 17, 2008
In the back-cover blurb of Kosova's highly promising debut volume of poetry, she refers to her poems as raindrops from one of her life's storms, each one an unedited, as-it-happened moment.
Addiction, in this case a husband's addiction to crack cocaine, impacts a family in ways those of us looking in from the outside can only imagine if we dare.
"Honey, Can you hear me? Do you know that I am your wife? Honey, how can you 'Crack' our life?"
Kosova's no-nonsense, spartan poems provide us with brief glimpses so understated and so unadorned that they draw us inexorably into both the heart of the whirlwind and the wife who weathered it.
"I take a glimpse of myself and realize that on the other side of the mirror is a woman I do not recognize."
In the pure and honest reflection in these raindrops we see the truths of substance abuse, unpaid bills, questioning children, arguments and physical abuse, and a determination to prevail that dissolves into a determination to survive. |
